Leaving

This morning, I will board a plane and begin my journey to Uganda. I will be there for a little over two weeks for two different purposes. The first part of my trip will be meeting with other World Vision leaders from Uganda and the U.S. in the Rakai region of Uganda where AIDS was first discovered in humans. World Vision has been working in this region for twelve years and is in the process of transition. The World Vision model of transformational development has as it’s goal to produce a self reliant community that has the tools to support itself. This process takes anywhere from 12 to 20 years. The national leadership in Uganda believes that Rakai is ready for this transition. Our team’s role is to meet with the national office and review their assessments so that we may better understand the process.

The second part of my trip will be leading a vision trip with an awesome church from Denver, Cherry Hills Church. This church is a new partner with World Vision having hosted the World Vision Step into Africa Tour in July. This congregation sponsored over 1,000 children in the eight day engagement. The purpose of our visit is to introduce key members of the congregation to the work of World Vision in Gulu where their church is partnering with World Vision to help transform this community.
